Invite for Nikhef's first Sustainability Week 2026

Beste allemaal,

We nodigen jullie graag uit voor Nikhefs eerste Duurzaamheidsweek!

Duurzaamheid wordt al verweven in de manier waarop we werken, in de systemen die we ontwerpen, de afwegingen die we maken, de problemen waar we om geven en waarvoor we actie ondernemen. We noemen het alleen niet altijd zo. Nikhefs eerste Duurzaamheidsweek gaat over het zichtbaar maken daarvan, bewustwording creëren en samen onderzoeken: hoe kunnen we een positieve impact maken, in ons werk, bij Nikhef? Er is niet één antwoord. Dat is precies het punt. En zoals de meeste goede vraagstukken: het wordt interessanter naarmate er meer mensen mee aan de slag gaan!

Ons doel: aan het einde van de week voelt duurzaamheid minder abstract en meer als iets wat we samen actief vormgeven!

Elke ochtend vind je een kort interview in je inbox, waarin een collega deelt wat duurzaamheid voor hen betekent.

MAANDAG 1 juni

10:00 | WIDE koffiemoment @ Koffiehoek

Loop langs, deel wat duurzaamheid voor jou betekent en voeg je ideeën toe aan de ideeënbus.

DINSDAG 2 juni

Emily Kooijstra geeft een lezing over Nikhefs data-, software- en energievoetafdruk. Wat kost jouw code eigenlijk?

Femke Bangma van HFML-Felix vertelt ons meer over warmteterugwinning en de beste tijden om de magneten te draaien op basis van de koolstofintensiteit van het Nederlandse elektriciteitsnet.

WOENSDAG 3 juni

09:00-12:00 | @ Veltman Center

Workshop: Duurzame Doelen. Een teamspel waarbij je verkent wat duurzaamheid persoonlijk voor jou betekent en waarbij je vertrekt met een concrete actie om het in je werk in te bedden. Gevolgd door lunch! Registreer hier: https://indico.nikhef.nl/event/8011/

DONDERDAG 4 juni

Wist je dat het fruit, de thee en koffie, de menstruatieproducten op de toiletten en zelfs de manier waarop onze afvalbakken zijn ingericht allemaal het resultaat zijn van bewuste duurzame keuzes? Vandaag zetten we in de schijnwerpers wat er al gebeurt bij Nikhef, van ons afvalplan (plastic, karton en meer) tot onze zonwering en waarom deze keuzes worden gemaakt. Zoek naar de informatiepanelen door het hele gebouw!

VRIJDAG 5 juni

Duurzaamheid in ons werk inbedden werkt het best wanneer we allemaal aanwezig zijn. Dus of je hier al een tijdje over nadenkt of je oprecht niet zeker weet wat duurzaamheid te maken heeft met onderzoek, deeltjesfysica of het werk dat jij bij Nikhef doet — jij bent precies degene die we hopen te zien!

We would like to invite you to Nikhef’s first Sustainability Week!
Sustainability is already being woven into how we work, in the systems we design, the trade-offs we make, the problems care about, and choose to take action upon. We just don't always name it. Nikhef’s first Sustainability Week is about making that visible, creating awareness and asking together: how can we make a positive impact, in our work, at Nikhef?
There's no single answer. That's the point. And like most good problems, it gets more interesting the more people engage with it!

Our goal: by the end of the week, sustainability feels less like something abstract and more like something we actively shape together!

Each morning you'll find a short interview in your inbox where a colleague shares what sustainability means to them.

THURSDAY 4th of June

Did you know that the fruit, the tea and coffee, the menstrual products in the bathrooms, and even the way our bins are organised are all the result of deliberate sustainable choices? Today we shine a light on what's already happening at Nikhef, from our waste plan (plastic, cardboard and beyond) to our sun blinds and why these choices are made. Look for the information panels throughout the building!
